This is a 50 amp Contactor.

You will see 40 amps referenced on the side of this product.

40 amps is printed on the white sticker label.

You cannot exceed 80% of a coil's rating. This is also true for circuit breakers, and GFCI's,

80% of 50 amps = 40 amps. So on a 50 amp breaker, you cannot exceed 40 amps, this is why its stated as it is on the side of this contactor.
