Here are the steps to install your new ozone generator:
Step 1 - Read the installation manual that was included with your new ozone generator.
Step 2 - Drain and refill the spa with clean water. This step is not mandatory but never a bad idea.
Step 3 - Test and balance the chemicals in your spa. If you are adding chemicals, allow the water to circulate for 30 min before shutting it down.
Step 4 - Turn off power to the spa at the main breaker.
Step 5 - Open spa skirting or otherwise gain access to the ozone location.
Step 6 - Inspect the existing unit and be mindful of how it is installed.
Step 7 - Remove the existing unit and place it away from your workspace.
Step 8 - Remove all existing tubing associated with current ozone.
Step 9 - Securely mount the Ozone Generator in an appropriate location.
Step 10 - Create a "Hartford Loop" with the tubing. A loop can prevent any backflow should your check valve fail. A Hartford loop is directing the tubing up above the level of both the ozone generator and the injection point. This will cause gravity never to allow static pressure to backflow water and swamp the ozone generator unit. Be sure to double-loop the tubing and secure it to the high-up location. (Fig.1)
Step 11 - Connect your check valve. Consult the installation manual for the correct location. Generally, it is placed close to the generator and before the Hartford loop.
Step 12 - Install the check valve(s) pointing in the correct direction. Most will have small arrows on the check valve to indicate the direction.
Step 13 - Connect the tubing to the injection point in your plumbing. Most spas will have either an ozone jet in the footwell of the spa or a venturi or Mazzei Injector in the plumbing. (Fig.2)
Step 14 - Connect the electrical cord to your control system or power source.
