Here's what to do for a successful water maintenance routine for your hot tub:
1
Test chemical balance at least once per week even if not using the spa.

2
Follow the directions provided with your testing method.
3
Record the test results.
4
Turn on pump(s) for the duration of the treatment.
5
Always balance in this order. Alkalinity, PH, Sanitizer.
6
Determine if Alkalinity needs adjustment. (80 ppm – 120 ppm) If so, measure out the correct amount and broadcast over the surface of the water. If Alkalinity is being adjusted, do not adjust PH at this time. Most often, the PH will naturally rise along with Alkalinity after treatment.
7
Balance the PH (7.2 – 7.6). If Alkalinity is in range, but the PH is out of range, determine the correct amount of increaser or decreaser needed and apply to spa water with pumps running.
8
Wait at least 15 minutes before testing again.
9
Re-test chemicals to be sure PH is within range.
10
Balance Sanitizer. Add needed amount of chlorine or bromine to the water. If using Liquids, never exceed more than ¼ cup at any time. If using granular, never exceed more than 2 tablespoons at a time. You can always add more, but removing sanitizer requires neutralizing chemicals, or non-usage / evaporative times. If using a floater for tablets, add this now.
11
Add Non-Chlorine Shock, (Oxidizer, Monopersulfate) Follow directions on packaging for recommended amount.
12
Add 3 oz. Stain & Scale / Metal Out, Monthly or more depending on quality of make-up water
13
Add 1-2 oz. of Enzyme monthly or as needed. Be sure to never add within 30 min of Metal Out or Stain & Scale.
14
Wait 30 minutes before entering the water.
Tech tip on normal weekly maintenance of your spa or hot tub water
Always check chemicals before you get in the tub AND after you get out. Testing before using the spa will ensure that your spa is safe for you to use and free of harmful contaminants. Testing after usage will ensure the PH is in balance and sanitizer residuals are present. This practice will extend the lifespan of your hot tub, as doing so will help keep PH from causing an acidic condition that can destroy equipment, plumbing, jets, and seals.
